In order to make sure that your WebQuest stays aligned with your unit, you will need to copy and paste 3 things from your Stages 1 and 2 from your unit for Dr. Grace's class. (This will also help Dr. Theresa give you better feedback on your Intro, Task, and Conclusion.) Then you will write your first drafts of your Introduction and Conclusion.

(Feel free to copy and paste what you have for the GRASPS portion of your unit for Dr. Grace in Stage 2.)
Goal
Build an iBook to present to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry to give the best and worst case scenario for the organisms in question, and the affect that this change to the organism will have on the ecosystem that surrounds it.
Role
Researcher
Audience
Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry.
Situation
There is an invasive species that is having an affect on a species that is local to this certain ecosystem.
Product & Performance
iBook with video or audio integration.
Standards
Presentation Rubric:Stays on Topic (20%), Preparedness (20%), Comprehension (20%), Vocabulary (15%), Enthusiasm (15%), Posture and Eye Contact (10%). Product Rubric:Content (25%), Media Integration (20%), Conclusion to Problem (20%), Addresses Target Audience (20%), Organization (10%), Sources (5%).
Big Ideas
Big Ideas
• Environmental and Ecosystem Change
• Evolution/ Extinction
Understanding(s)
(Copy and paste the big understanding(s) you have listed in your unit for Dr. Grace in Stage 1 (the answers to the essential questions). What are the academic goals for the unit (which will also be the purpose of the WebQuest)?)
•Students will understand that there are natural and unnatural changes that effect the environment.
•Students will understand that these environmental changes have an impact on the surrounding organisms.
•Students will understand that these new environments may cause genetic change in present species.
Introduction
(Set the stage, give us any background info that we might need to know (but just a hint), this is your HOOK. Provide a segue to the Task . . . make your reader want to click to the next section. There should be nothing that sounds like school work in this section. Don't give away what's going to happen in the Task.)
The world that you live in is full of forever changing variables that can happen through random chance or purpose from one or many people. Environmental change is more fragile than you can imagine. The way that organisms interact with each other inside of them is a very delicate. The introduction of a new organism, or the extinction or loss of another can completely change the way in which these ecosystems run.
It is your job as problem solving human beings to be proactive and reactive in protecting, maintaining, and recovering these delicate ecosystems. You and your peers have the power to determine what our world will look like for generations to come.
Task
(This story should match the Task Description/Summary from your unit in Stage 2 (Through what authentic performance task will students demonstrate understandings?). You can copy and paste from Dr. Grace's wiki.Tell the story of the Role, Audience, Situation, and Product & Performance. Be a story teller. Save any classroom-specific information for the Process. Build the scenario and stay in character. You can reference the Introduction but try not to duplicate the information that's in the Introduction. Be sure to write this in second person ("you work for an international design firm" "you and your colleagues at the television studio" "your team wants to submit the winning entry"...))
You and some of your colleagues have just recently becomceMaine Ecologyresearchers and are spending the day walking through the woods. This day isn’t a normal day, because you notice something out of the ordinary. There has been a major change in this small community and it has the potential to cause major damage. You and your colleagues research this new change and realize the possible negative implications it will have on one species in particular. Your job is to build an iBook presentation that presents your best and worst case findings to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. If your data and explanation is sufficient, they will provide you funding to fix this issue. This is your opportunity to save the ecosystem that you live in from major changes.
*Each group will be given a different environmental change and a certain species that will be effected by this change. Characteristics will be given for each of these two factors.
Conclusion
(Tie everything the participants have done back to the Goal. Why did they go through all of this? Tie the scenario to the real world. Remind them of the "Big Idea" that they were supposed to gain from this, just in case they didn't make the connection on their own. Don't get preachy. If you ask a question here, it has to be rhetorical. No work or assignments should be included. Short is good.)
You have now submitted an iBook to the MDACF. They have your best and worst case scenarios and will now use this information you have given them to make a conclusion of what they will do with the affected organism. You have done your part, for now. Environments all over the world are affected ever day by a multitude of issues. It is your job as a vigilant human to keep an eye on things and always report your findings. Keep making the world a better and safer place to live!!
